Colne Valley was founded in 1956 as one of the first purpose built comprehensive schools and was regarded as an innovative educational establishment; one where every student had the opportunity to make the most of their talents and become the very best they could be. While much has changed in the world, the principle of ensuring that all learners reach their potential remains at the very heart of everything we do at Colne Valley.

We are working hard to regain our reputation for innovation in teaching and learning in order to make our school a truly stimulating environment for staff and students alike. Colne Valley is a happy, calm and purposeful school where students feel safe and are developing in confidence. We are striving to make our school a place that students enjoy because they are routinely challenged to think for themselves and are actively engaged in their learning. Good relationships are at the very centre of a caring community and emphasis is placed upon developing these to encourage respect, understanding and co-operation.

The school’s academic results are improving. In 2012, 85% of students achieved 5 or more A*-C grades and 98% gained 5 or more A*-G grades. 65% achieved 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Mathematics, but we still have much work ahead of us. Colne Valley is determined to build upon its strong foundation and become a truly outstanding school that serves the bests interests of its community and supports all students to become great learners.
